London Craft Week 2018
The Jimmy Beaumont Bespoke Travel Collection

As part of London Craft Week, The Beaumont will be presenting an exhibition of bespoke travel items in the lobby of the hotel.

As a special commission, eight of Britain's finest luxury travel goods manufacturers have each created a one off bespoke travel item exclusively for the exhibition, inspired by an earlier, golden era of travel when bespoke steamer trunks, writing cases and cigar caddies were the custom.

Each piece was inspired by a friend of fictional hotelier Jimmy Beaumont, who was invented by the hotel's founder, Jeremy King, to inform the ethos and interior design of The Beaumont. Jimmy's eclectic group of friends is to be found adorning the walls of the hotel's restaurant, The Colony Grill.

The exhibition showcases exclusively commissioned modern-day pieces which demonstrate the various skills of cutting leather, embroidering on leather, the process of tanning, embellishing pieces with hand-painted designs and commissioning specialised cases, alongside vintage travel items from the early 20th century.

The designers and makers include:
- Alfie Douglas - a backpack for Will Rogers
- Billy Tannery with Charles Laurie - a briefcase for Sir Cecil Beaton
- Caroline Groves - a kit bag and boots for Elsa Schiaparelli
- Ettinger - a briefcase for David Niven
- Geraldine Larkin - a jewellery pouch for Doris Duke
- Gladstone LDN - a backgammon set for Clarke Gable
- Purdey - a folio briefcase for Ernest Hemingway
- Trunk Clothiers with Charlie Borrow - a cotton game bag for Charles Ritz

The exhibition will run for the duration of London Craft Week at The Beaumont Hotel in Mayfair and is open to the public.
